Title
In the Teachers' Hands: Using Action Research to Improve Student Achievement
Abstract/Description
This study focused on the work of teachers at Milford Central Academy, a public middle school, as active participants using action research practices individually, as part of a peer group, and as grade level teams to improve student learning. The study shows the impact of teacher use of action research on student achievement as measured by school year 2015-16 and 2016-17 sixth-grade math SMARTER Assessment scale scores (Data Service Center, 2017). The data was divided into three groups based on teacher training to illustrate the impact of teacher use of action research on student performance based on the type of training they received. The three groups in the study include teachers trained directly by Schools That Lead, teachers trained by their Schools That Lead trained peers and teachers with no formal training in the use of action research.
